About the Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a dynamic and experienced Health Care Social Worker to join our interdisciplinary healthcare team. As a key member of our team, you will provide collaborative, holistic care on the primary to quaternary care continuum. Your primary concern will be the relationships between people and their environments, integral to psychosocial, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.

The social determinants of health are embedded in social work theory and practice and will be the focus for the dynamic and interactive process of engagement, assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. You will build upon the strengths of patients/clients by focusing on existing coping strategies and problem-solving skills, past successes, and personal resources.

We are looking for a candidate with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from a recognized university and current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers. Two years of post BSW-related clinical experience are required. Knowledge and understanding of the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and previous experience working in adult community mental health are preferred.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability to use a client-/family-centered approach, familiarity with various evidence-based treatment approaches for use with people with severe and persistent mental illness, and experience with group facilitation. The ability to complete biopsychosocial assessments and excellent communication skills are essential. Awareness of local community resources and agencies would be an asset, as would the ability to demonstrate effective time management and disciplined self-organization.
