Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Residential Counsellor to join our Developmental Services team. As a Residential Counsellor, you will provide support and counselling to individuals with developmental disabilities or dual diagnosis, focusing on home life skills training and transition planning.
Key Responsibilities- Provide individualized support and counselling to residents, promoting independence in daily living activities, including hygiene, budgeting, cooking, and social skills.
- Develop and implement life skills programming in the home and community, promoting learning for independent living.
- Accompany residents on community outings and provide support for safe participation in community activities.
- Manage challenging behaviors in a residential setting, using crisis intervention skills to diffuse confrontational situations.
- Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment, adhering to policies, procedures, and laws.
- Provide administrative support to the program, including clerical and reception duties.
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in the Social Services field.
- Strong knowledge of computer applications, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Valid First Aid and Safe Management certifications.
- Minimum two years of recent work-related experience in the Developmental Services sector, with a focus on supports and counselling, life skills facilitation, community supports, and safe management.
- Working knowledge of the Developmental Services Sector, including the Social Inclusion Act and the Act for the Supports of Persons with Developmental Disabilities.
