Residential Counsellor

The Salvation Army is a leading provider of support services for adults with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Counsellor to provide support and care to individuals in a residential setting.

About the Role
  • This part-time position involves working 24 hours per week, with a rotating schedule that includes Friday, Saturday, and Sunday shifts.
  • As a Residential Counsellor, you will provide support and care to individuals with developmental disabilities and/or mental health challenges in a residential setting.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized support plans to promote personal growth and independence.
  • Provide personal care and hygiene support, as well as advocacy and community integration services.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, consultants, colleagues, and community members to ensure comprehensive support.
  • Navigate conflicts and overcome obstacles with confidence and creativity.
Requirements
  • Diploma or degree in a related field, such as Developmental Services Worker or Human Services.
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR Level C Certificate.
  • Ability to achieve Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certificate.
Experience and Knowledge
  • Minimum 6-12 months' experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, preferably with a dual diagnosis of mental health challenges and developmental disabilities.
  • Experience with implementing Individual Support Plans and medication administration.
Skills and Capabilities
  • Strong counselling and de-escalation support skills.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks.
  • Ability to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
