Position Overview: The Salvation Army in Canada is committed to providing exceptional assistance to adults facing developmental disabilities and mental health challenges. We are currently seeking a Full-Time Residential Support Counsellor for Overnight Shifts. This role is essential in delivering continuous support to individuals in our residences, ensuring their needs are met during the night.

Key Responsibilities: This position involves working at multiple sites within the Greater Toronto Area, providing around-the-clock assistance. The Residential Support Counsellor will report directly to the Residential Manager and will be responsible for:

  • Implementing and facilitating programs focused on personal care, advocacy, and community engagement.
  • Collaborating effectively with a diverse team and various stakeholders, including healthcare professionals and family members.
  • Addressing conflicts and challenges with resilience and creativity, particularly when supporting individuals in crisis.

Compliance and Standards: The Residential Support Counsellor must adhere to all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures, including those related to Occupational Health & Safety and the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act.

Qualifications:
  • A completed 2–3-year diploma in Developmental Services or a related field.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification.
  • Ability to obtain Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification upon hire.
  • A valid Ontario Class 'G' Driver's License is preferred.
Experience and Skills:
  • At least 6 months to 1 year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, especially those with dual diagnoses.
  • Experience in creating and updating Individual Support Plans.
  • Medication administration experience is an asset.
  • Strong skills in counselling and de-escalation techniques.
