Residential Counsellor Position

At The Salvation Army, we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Full Time Residential Counsellor to join our team. As a Residential Counsellor, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges in our residential settings.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide personalized support to residents, promoting their personal development and well-being through individualized support planning and advocacy.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals and colleagues to ensure comprehensive care and support.
- Administer medications and maintain accurate records.
- Develop and implement learning opportunities, fostering independence and self-advocacy in residents.
- Ensure a clean and safe environment, adhering to health and safety protocols.
- Provide orientation and support to new staff, students, and volunteers.
- Embody the agency's mission and values, promoting a culture of respect and inclusivity.
- Exposure to dirt, bodily fluids, and waste.
- Dealing with challenging behaviors and situations.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds, applying effective body mechanics.
- Developmental Services Worker Diploma or related degree/diploma.
- Valid Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR Level C.
- Ability to achieve Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certificate.
- Minimum 6-12 months' experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Experience with implementing Individual Support Plans and medication administration.
- Strong counselling and de-escalation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and navigate complex situations.
- Willingness to develop an understanding of The Salvation Army's mission and purpose.
