Residential Counsellor

The Salvation Army is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Part Time Residential Counsellor to join our team. As a Residential Counsellor, you will play a vital role in providing support and care to individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges.
Key Responsibilities- Provide individualized support and advocacy to residents, promoting their personal development and independence.
- Develop and implement Individual Support Plans (ISPs) in collaboration with residents, colleagues, and healthcare professionals.
- Administer medications and maintain accurate records.
- Ensure a safe and healthy environment by maintaining cleanliness and adhering to health and safety protocols.
- Provide orientation and support to new staff members, students, and volunteers.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of program goals and objectives.
The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment, providing support to individuals with varying needs. This may include exposure to dirt, bodily fluids, and other challenging situations.
- Ability to work in a dynamic and unpredictable environment.
- Capacity to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Completed Developmental Services Worker Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid and current Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR Level C Certificate.
- Ability to achieve Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certificate.
- Minimum 6-12 months' experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges.
- Experience with implementing ISPs and medication administration.
- Strong counselling and de-escalation skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Capacity to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
