Highly Experienced Payroll Manager

This confidential search seeks an accomplished Payroll Manager with a proven track record of delivering accurate and timely payroll results for large volumes of employees. The ideal candidate will oversee a small team of payroll members, ensuring the smooth operation of payroll functions.
The successful candidate will possess a solid background in payroll, having managed complex environments and worked with HRIS systems. They will be accustomed to fast-paced and dynamic work environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversight of payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in salary payments, benefits, and deductions, T4s, year-end reconciliations, and Records of Employment.
- Compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to payroll and taxes.
- Maintenance of accurate records of payroll documentation and transactions.
- Preparation and distribution of income statements and other payroll-related reports.
- System management, including coordination with technical teams for system upgrades, changes, or challenges.
- Team supervision, providing training and support as needed.
- Issue resolution, addressing payroll-related discrepancies.
- Collaboration with HR and accounting departments for seamless payroll operations.
- Audit liaison, liaising with auditors for payroll tax audits and ensuring all documentation is in order.
- Process improvement, identifying and implementing best practices to enhance payroll efficiency.
Measures of Success (First Year):
- Effective handling of CRA external inquiries and reconciliations.
- Exceptional customer service to internal employees.
- Strong leadership, managing performance to ensure stability and success.
- Review of existing payroll practices and systems to identify areas for improvement.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or equivalent from a recognized educational institution.
- Canadian Payroll certification (PCP or CPM) is required.
- Ten years' experience in full-cycle payroll, preferably in large volume environments.
- Three years' supervisory experience.
- Thorough understanding of payroll principles, procedures, legislation, and regulations.
- Knowledge of HRIS systems is considered an asset.
Compensation: $80,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on experience. A competitive compensation package awaits the successful candidate.
Location: Edmonton, Alberta. The company offers a hybrid work arrangement.
