About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced People Manager to join our team at Coast Hotels. As a key member of our People & Culture team, you will play a critical role in shaping the culture and work environment of our hotel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Culture Development: Work with our hotel's leadership team to create a motivating and engaging work environment that aligns with our company values and culture.
  • Employee Engagement and Experience: Ensure that our Ambassadors deliver exceptional customer service and work with the leadership team to remove barriers to delivering outstanding guest experiences.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Understand and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations, including OH&S, Employment Standards, Human Rights, and Labour Relations.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Connect our People & Culture plans with other departments and areas of the hotel as appropriate and maintain open communication with Ambassadors.
  • Industry Knowledge and Networking: Attend industry and professional events or conferences to maintain industry knowledge and network with peers.
  • Strategic Prioritization: Focus on short- and long-term priorities, maintaining a big-picture perspective.
  • Conflict Resolution and Empowerment: Use conflict resolution skills and empower Ambassadors to resolve issues and identify when to escalate them.
  • Community Engagement and Reputation: Live the Coast Values and reflect the brand in the community, participating in local events and fostering a positive reputation for the company.
  • Centralized HR Support: Provide expertise, support, and collaboration within a centralized model of human resources for multi-property needs.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree or diploma in Human Resources or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Professional Designation: Chartered Professional in Human Resource (CPHR) Professional designation or equivalent.
  • Unionized Environment Experience: Experience working in a unionized environment required.
  • Leadership Experience: 5-7 years of related experience, with 2-3 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Coaching and Influencing: Proven ability to coach and influence leaders and peers.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Advanced communication (written, verbal, and listening), interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced working knowledge of MS Office Suite; proficiency with HRIS Systems and various technologies.
  • Legislative Knowledge: Knowledge of OH&S, Employment Standards, Human Rights, Labour Relations legislation and regulations.
  • Industry Experience: Previous experience in the hospitality industry an asset.
  • Problem Resolution and Confidentiality: Excellent problem resolution skills and conflict resolution skills to resolve issues within a functional area, and proven ability to handle confidential information and situations.
  • Travel and Valid Driver's License: Valid driver's license as there will be some travel required.
  • Personal Qualities: Not content with the status quo; driven to create positive change and growth, and exemplifies Coast's core values and enjoys working in a culture of accountability.
