Job Summary

This role is responsible for developing and implementing strategic communication briefs that provide insights for the communications team to execute on.

Key Responsibilities
  1. To develop strategic communications briefs that are aligned to our clients brand, support overall corporate business objectives, and/or departmental initiatives.
  2. To actively seek out insights and information (i.e., research, social media engagement, public sentiment, customer feedback, previous campaign metrics) in order to develop a robust communications brief.
  3. To collaborate with the Senior Manager, External Communications and Communications Project Management team to help identify timing and budget allocation for input to the communications brief.
  4. Proactively inform the Communications Insights Manager and the Project Management team of any changes in requirements throughout the project that could affect the scope of the project, budget or timelines.
  5. Provide experience-based, judgement-driven advice, support and coaching to leaders and employees that help business units and the organization as a whole achieve their communications objectives.
  6. Fostering strong relationships with internal business partners at various functional levels in the organization to identify external communication needs.
  7. Advise in the management of issues at the corporate level; monitor and respond to issues that have the potential to affect trust and reputation of the company.
  8. Collaborate with all team members to help identify tactics and recommendations for a unified solutions plan that meets the strategy outlined in the communications brief. Input to the unified solutions plan as required.
  9. Explore new communication tactics and share ideas with the communications team. Include tactics in the unified solutions plan as appropriate.
  10. To ensure the unified solutions plan is grounded in the strategy as outlined in the communications brief; to actively participate in unified solutions presentations to various internal business partners.
  11. Review monitoring and analytics reports and optimization recommendations from the digital team or media agency and incorporate into communications briefs, as needed.
Requirements
  1. Degree in Communications or Marketing or a directly related discipline from an accredited post-secondary institution, plus a minimum of four years related experience.
  2. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  3. Demonstrated ability in leading strategic and proactive communications initiatives.
  4. Energy industry experience is desirable; experience in a regulated environment is preferred.
  5. Demonstrated ability to develop creative, strategic and proactive communications and social marketing initiatives.
  6. Demonstrated ability to gauge project duration, deliver on deadline, within budget, and manage a high volume workload.
  7. Demonstrated ability to apply quantitative and qualitative research skills in development of effective and efficient marketing communications programs.
  8. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively including expert writing, interpersonal, diplomacy, and presentation skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  9. Proven adaptability and flexibility including ability to manage deadline pressures and last-minute changes.
  10. Exceptional organizational skills: demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver quality results under tight timelines.
  11. Strong initiative, judgment, organizational skills and creative abilities.
  12. Advanced computer software skills (MS Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Excel, etc.).
  13. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
  14. Strong working knowledge of industry trends (advertising, social media, etc.).
Compensation

The target hiring compensation range for this role is $45-60/HR DOE. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
