Human Resources Specialist for Employer-Employee Relations

This Human Resources Specialist role is located in Yellowknife and reports directly to the Manager, Advice and Adjudication. The position focuses on fostering sound, harmonious employer-employee relations throughout the Government of Northwest Territories.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will provide expert advice in areas such as employment contract administration, dispute management, employee discipline, and human rights in the workplace. This advice must be reflective of relevant law, government-wide policies, practices, and initiatives.
The incumbent's advice serves as a final level of assessment and recommendation for management, impacting the delivery of GNWT services and programs, employee morale, and relationships with unions and associations.
Required Skills and Qualifications- Proven client services orientation
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with senior managers, supervisors, technical staff, employees, Union representatives, and other stakeholders
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Effective negotiation skills to resolve conflicts or negotiate agreements
- Basic knowledge and understanding of labour relations, labour standards, labour law, employment law, and their integration and effect on other human resources functions
A relevant Bachelor degree coupled with 2 years of experience in a relevant field, including at least 1 year as a labour relations advisor or human resource generalist.
Estimated Salary$85,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
