About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cultural Heritage Specialist/Lead to join our Environmental Division at Egis Canada. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing expert advice and guidance on cultural heritage matters to our clients, including government agencies, developers, and property owners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the growth and development of our Cultural Heritage group through the addition of new team members, clients, and business opportunities.
  • Prepare and finalize cultural heritage reports, including Existing Conditions and Preliminary Impact Assessments, Cultural Heritage Assessment Reports (CHAR), Cultural Heritage Evaluation Reports (CHER), Heritage Impact Assessments (HIA), and Documentation and Salvage Reports.
  • Responsible for bidding, proposal preparation, invoicing, and project management of cultural heritage services as part of stand-alone proposals or team proposals.
  • Engage in client management and business development, including attending industry events and promoting Egis' cultural heritage services.
  • Collaborate with other departments within Egis to promote and educate about cultural heritage services.
  • Maintain positive client relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in heritage planning, heritage conservation, or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of demonstrated cultural heritage experience.
  • Membership with the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP).
  • Qualified cultural heritage professional as defined by the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism (MCM).
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team.
  • Proven experience writing winning proposals and executing on those projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of international, federal, and provincial heritage legislation and best practices.
  • Experience providing advice and guidance on heritage-related matters for various stakeholders.
  • Experience completing historic property research, built heritage surveys, cultural landscape surveys, heritage inventory, determining impacts on the historic environment, and designating properties under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act.
  • Experience writing and completing heritage reports, including Existing Conditions and Preliminary Impact Assessments, Cultural Heritage Assessment Reports (CHAR), Cultural Heritage Evaluation Reports (CHER), Heritage Impact Assessments (HIA), Documentation and Salvage Reports, conservation plans, cultural heritage landscape studies, and other heritage reporting.
  • Experience with municipal heritage planning processes, including heritage permit applications, working with property owners, municipal heritage committees, developers, and municipal Councillors to achieve heritage objectives.
  • Experience organizing, designing, and facilitating public consultation, outreach, and educational materials.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write and review heritage reports.
  • Experience using various computer software, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
