Job Summary

The City of Ottawa's Cultural and Heritage Programs department is seeking a skilled Heritage Programming Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and delivering interpretive and educational programs at our historic sites and museums.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver heritage programming to Museum users, working closely with Education and Interpretation Programs Officers.
  • Conduct historical research for educational and promotional purposes.
  • Prepare and coordinate heritage programming materials and supplies.
  • Provide excellent customer service, answering public inquiries and dispensing information.
  • Perform reception and clerical duties as needed, including program bookings, mailings, reservations, and confirmations.
Requirements
  • Completion of 2 years of university or college in History, Social Sciences, Museum Studies, Education, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of interpretive or educational experience in a museum environment or 2 years of experience teaching in a school environment.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in historical research and project writing or 1 year of experience in a heritage trade.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR, and/or AED certificates.
  • AODA Customer Service/IASR Training.
  • Knowledge of heritage trades, educational and interpretive programming techniques, and museological techniques for handling and displaying artifacts.
