Position Overview

The City of Ottawa is seeking a dedicated individual to contribute to our Cultural and Heritage Programs. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities aimed at enhancing community engagement through arts and heritage initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement interpretive and educational programs at historical sites and museums.
  • Engage in ongoing heritage projects, including research and public programming.
  • Collaborate with volunteers and community organizations to promote cultural events.
  • Assist in training and supervising seasonal staff while providing excellent visitor services.
  • Manage public inquiries and provide information related to genealogy and heritage.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Enrollment in a university or college program focused on history, social sciences, museum studies, education, or a related field.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a museum setting or educational environment.
  • Experience in historical research and project development.

Certifications

Current certifications in Standard First Aid, CPR, and/or AED are required, along with AODA Customer Service/IASR Training.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Understanding of health and safety regulations and practices.
  • Familiarity with Ottawa's historical sites and cultural institutions.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking abilities.

Work Environment

This position requires flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends. The successful candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment and demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and community engagement.
