About the Role

The University of British Columbia is seeking a highly skilled Strategic HR Leader to join its Finance and Operations team. This key leadership position will be responsible for leading all aspects of human resource advisory services for the VP Finance & Operations portfolio, in alignment with overall human resources and institution-wide goals.

Job Summary

This strategic leadership role will lead the planning, development, implementation, communication, and management of human resource advisory services for the VP Finance & Operations (VPFO) portfolio. The successful candidate will provide strategic advice and direction to the Vice-President, Finance & Operations, on HR matters including talent management, culture, workforce planning, diversity & inclusion, well-being, and other key areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Liaise with portfolio departments to set the strategic direction for human resources advisory services within the context of University-wide human resources strategies and the University's overall mission and direction.
  • Provide strategic advice and direction to the Vice-President, Finance & Operations, on HR matters.
  • Lead a team of professional and support staff, including establishing portfolio and department priorities and objectives, allocating resources, mentoring, supervising staff performance, and providing training and development opportunities.
  • Perform ongoing quality assessments of HR programs, processes, and systems to uphold high-quality standards and maximize resource efficiency.
  • Participate in the annual VP, Finance & Operations budgeting process, manage within assigned budgets, and provide reports, analyses, and updates.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Experience in a post-secondary or large public sector organization is an asset.
  • CPHR designation is an asset.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to make effective presentations, and prepare senior-level reports.
  • Ability to manage conflict and reach resolution in the face of multiple, complicated interests.
  • Ability to set priorities and handle competing projects, issues, and initiatives.
  • Proficiency with word processing, database, spreadsheet, and presentation software and with human resource information and benefit systems (preferably Workday).
Salary Information

The salary range for this position is CAD $42/hour based on a full-time equivalent (40 hours/week). Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
