At the University of British Columbia, we are seeking a highly skilled Strategic HR Leader to join our Finance and Operations Leadership team as Director, Human Resources - VP Finance & Operations Portfolio.

The estimated salary for this position is CAD 42,000 per month.

About the Role

This strategic leadership position will lead all aspects of human resource advisory services for the VP Finance & Operations (VPFO) portfolio, aligning with overall human resources and institution-wide goals. You will lead the strategic direction and operational efficiency of HR professionals and support staff, providing leadership, advice, and support to the portfolio's functional departments.

In collaboration with the portfolio's departments, you will set the strategic direction for human resources advisory services for the portfolio within the context of University-wide human resources strategies and the University's overall mission and direction.

You will provide strategic advice and direction to the Vice-President, Finance & Operations, on HR matters including talent management, culture development, workforce planning, diversity and inclusion, well-being, and other key areas.

As a leader, you will be responsible for establishing portfolio and department priorities and objectives, allocating resources, mentoring and supervising staff performance, and providing training and development opportunities.

You will perform ongoing quality assessments of HR programs, processes, and systems to uphold high-quality standards and maximize resource efficiency.

In addition, you will participate in the annual VP, Finance & Operations budgeting process, manage within assigned budgets, and provide reports, analyses, and updates.

You will develop and deliver impactful, data-driven reports to senior leadership, translating complex information into clear insights to support strategic decision-making and priority setting.

To succeed in this role, you will need to monitor human resources trends, emerging leading practices, standard methodologies, and benchmarking data in support of advisory services.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline
  • A commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Experience in a post-secondary or large public sector organization is an asset
  • CPHR designation is an asset
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to make effective presentations, and to prepare senior-level reports
  • Ability to manage conflict and reach resolution in the face of multiple, complicated interests
  • Ability to set priorities and handle competing projects, issues, and initiatives
  • Proficiency with word processing, database, spreadsheet, and presentation software and with human resource information and benefit systems (preferably Workday)
