Towards this end, we are seeking a qualified Mental Health Psychiatric Nurse Specialist to join our team.
Job Summary
This position involves performing intake assessments, crisis interventions, and direct patient care for psychiatric patients in the Emergency Department and/or MH&SUS zone.
The successful candidate will collaborate with Emergency Department Nurses and other service providers to adapt care plans to address psychiatric needs.
Responsibilities
- Perform psychosocial assessments and collect collateral information related to patients' primary support group and social environment.
- Develop care plans with final dispositions authorized by the Emergency Department Physician.
- Evaluate the psychiatric nursing care needs of assigned patients and provide direct psychiatric nursing care.
- Collaborate and consult with Emergency Department staff and other allied health department service providers.
- Document assessments, care plans, and patient/family responses according to practice standards.
- Provide guidance to Emergency Department nursing staff involved in caring for psychiatric patients.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you must possess:
- A degree from an approved School of Nursing plus current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- One (1) year recent related experience in an acute or community Mental Health & Substance Use setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to complete mental health and substance use patient assessments.
- Counselling and group facilitation skills.
- Knowledge of legislation and government policies related to mental health practices.
- Ability to promote person-centered care.
- Ability to educate patients and families about healthcare topics.
- Ability to collaborate with interprofessional care team members.
Compensation
The estimated salary range for this position is CAD $41,000 - CAD $60,000 per annum.
