Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Pediatric Associate Physician to join our team at Northern Health Authority. As a key member of our pediatric clinical team, you will provide high-quality patient care and work collaboratively with our attending physicians to deliver exceptional healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide medical services to pediatric patients under the supervision of an attending physician, including evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients with acute, chronic, and complex illnesses.
  • Work collaboratively with the attending pediatrician to provide care to patients in critical/acute care settings, including assessing, stabilizing, and determining the disposition of inpatients with emergent conditions.
  • Perform history and physical examinations, advance care planning, and order and interpret diagnostic studies, including laboratory, diagnostic imaging, and electrocardiograms.
  • Administer medications and provide consultation to patients and families as needed.
  • Participate in team-based care and work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
Requirements
  • Eligibility for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC as an Associate Physician - Community class or Acute class.
  • Certification in PALS and NRP prior to commencing orientation and maintenance of such certification throughout employment.
  • Canadian Citizenship, permanent residency, or the ability to live and work in British Columbia.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
  • Strong clinical skills and knowledge of pediatric medicine, including the ability to diagnose and manage common medical problems in pediatric patients.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to emergency situations, including shock and severe respiratory distress in pediatric patients.
Evaluation Period

During a 12-week probationary period, the successful candidate will undergo assessment and evaluation of their competence to perform the duties of the Pediatric Associate Physician role. The evaluation will include assessment of basic clinical skills, communication skills, ability to function as a member of a clinical team, specialized knowledge and skills applicable to the intended clinical placement, clinical decision-making, and clinical documentation.
