Inpatient Clinical Associate Physician

Prince George, British Columbia, Canada Northern Health Authority Full time
Position Overview

In alignment with the client and family-centered care model and the guiding principles of Northern Health Authority (NHA), the Associate Physician (AP) for Inpatient Clinical Care acts as a physician extender, delivering medical services to hospitalized patients throughout the organization, particularly those within the Medicine and Family Medicine Programs.

On a daily basis, the AP executes clinical duties and responsibilities under the oversight of the Attending Physician, while being accountable to the Department Head or designated representative for ensuring quality care and ongoing professional growth.

The AP plays a crucial role in providing continuous patient care within a collaborative team environment, working alongside the Most Responsible Physician (MRP), residents, nursing staff, and allied health professionals to manage acute medicine patients, including those admitted under acute internal medicine and family medicine services.

Under the guidance of the Attending Physician, the AP will assess, diagnose, treat, and consult on patients experiencing acute, chronic, and complex health issues, which may encompass palliative care and addiction medicine.

The AP is responsible for conducting comprehensive history and physical examinations, facilitating advance care planning, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests—including laboratory work, imaging studies, and electrocardiograms—and administering medications typically associated with hospital medicine practice.

In partnership with the Attending Physician, the AP may provide care to patients in acute care settings, adhering to unit policies and AP Program Accreditation standards.

In collaboration with the Attending Physician, the AP will evaluate, stabilize, and determine the appropriate course of action for inpatients presenting with urgent medical conditions, in accordance with medical staff policies regarding emergency and consultative services.
