About the Role

As a key member of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) team, the Strategic Initiatives and Innovations Lead plays a critical role in driving strategic priorities and initiatives that promote language access and equity. Reporting to the Director, Provincial Language Service, this position is responsible for planning, implementing, and collaborating with key partners to lead strategic initiatives and innovations that support the organization's goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with identified projects and propose new initiatives to support language access and equity
  • Contribute to the development, integration, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives that promote language access and equity
  • Research and implement innovative tools and technologies to support language access and delivery for language communities
  • Provide leadership and expertise on projects related to strategic priorities, including the development of key resources and papers, participation on provincial working groups, and providing advice to health system partners
  • Focus on the development of an Indigenous Language Access service delivery model that includes community engagement and relationship building with Indigenous communities across the province
Qualifications
  • Pursuant to section 42 of the British Columbia Human Rights Code, preference will be given to applicants of Indigenous Ancestry
  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Health Administration, or an applicable health discipline, and a minimum of five (5) years of recent related experience in strategic systems and large-scale change work in equity and access-related fields
  • Experience working with networks, coalitions, and multi-partnered projects in a healthcare environment, including a minimum of three (3) years' experience in a progressively responsible leadership role
Requirements
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Indigenous cultural safety and humility within health services contexts and have completed training in Indigenous cultural safety and trauma-informed practice
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge of Canadian colonial impacts on Indigenous people in social and health contexts, supported by significant knowledge of Indigenous ways of knowing and being
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities and advanced knowledge of Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, In Plain Sight etc.)
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation (FIPPA, PCQRB Act, BC DRIPA)
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the unique history, cultures, and rights of Indigenous Peoples in Canada; well-developed understanding of Indigenous Cultural Safety, white supremacy, and anti-Indigenous racism
  • Lived experience with Indigenous populations and demonstrated extensive knowledge of Indigenous health care needs, services, and issues as well as knowledge of culture, protocols, traditions, and ideology of Indigenous people and organizations in British Columbia
  • Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, and Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls calls for justice, and how they intersect across the health care system
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change, inspiring and engaging others in promoting change behaviors
  • Ability to lead, to build and maintain effective relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and/or evaluate health promotion, prevention, and primary care initiatives and/or programs with a focus on early years
  • Demonstrated analytic and critical thinking skills, including the ability to provide information in a concise and meaningful manner
  • Demonstrated ability to establish courses of action for self and others that are result-oriented
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with individuals at all levels, including the public
  • Demonstrated ability to create resources and/or knowledge translation initiatives and materials
