Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Provincial Language Service, the Strategic Initiatives and Innovations Lead is responsible for strategizing, executing, and collaborating with key stakeholders both internally and externally to spearhead strategic initiatives and innovations that align with the strategic priorities of PLS.

This role involves assisting with designated projects, proposing new initiatives, and contributing to various aspects of strategic priorities, including the development, integration, implementation, and assessment of initiatives that promote language access and equity.

The Lead will research, propose, and deploy innovative tools and technologies to enhance language access and service delivery for diverse language communities.

Providing leadership and expertise across a spectrum of projects of varying scales related to strategic priorities, the role includes developing essential resources and documentation, participating in provincial working groups, and advising health system partners.

Initially, the focus will be on creating an Indigenous Language Access service delivery model that emphasizes community engagement and relationship-building with Indigenous communities throughout the province.


Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants of Indigenous Ancestry, as per section 42 of the British Columbia Human Rights Code. Applicants are encouraged to self-identify in their cover letter and/or resume.

Applicants should possess a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Health Administration or a relevant health discipline, along with a minimum of five (5) years of recent experience in strategic systems and large-scale change initiatives in equity and access-related fields.

Experience in collaborating with networks, coalitions, and multi-partnered projects within a healthcare context is essential, including at least three (3) years in a progressively responsible leadership capacity.


  • In-depth knowledge of Indigenous cultural safety and humility within health service contexts, complemented by training in Indigenous cultural safety and trauma-informed practices.
  • Extensive understanding of the impacts of Canadian colonialism on Indigenous populations in social and health contexts, supported by significant knowledge of Indigenous epistemologies.
  • Comprehensive awareness of the social, economic, political, and historical factors affecting Indigenous communities, along with advanced knowledge of Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism frameworks.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation, including FIPPA and the PCQRB Act.
  • Appreciation of the unique histories, cultures, and rights of Indigenous Peoples in Canada, alongside a well-developed understanding of Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-Indigenous racism.
  • Lived experience with Indigenous populations and a thorough understanding of their healthcare needs, services, and issues, as well as knowledge of cultural protocols and traditions.
  • Commitment to understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action, the In Plain Sight Report, and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
  • Proven ability to lead change and inspire others to adopt change behaviors.
  • Capacity to build and maintain effective relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and evaluate health promotion and primary care initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to present information clearly and meaningfully.
  • Ability to establish actionable plans that are results-oriented.
  • Excellence in oral and written communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with individuals at all levels.
  • Proficiency in creating resources and knowledge translation initiatives.
