About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Waterway Operations Specialist to join our team at the Ministry of Transportation. This is a seasonal opportunity that will run for up to 9 months.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will assist in the operation and maintenance of a ferry vessel, transporting vehicles and passengers. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with the loading and unloading of vehicles
  • Securing and casting off the vessel
  • Responding to public inquiries
  • Maintaining the vessel and shore facilities
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A valid Class 'G' Driver's Licence or equivalent
  • The ability to obtain a medical certificate of fitness
  • The ability to write and pass the Marine Emergency Duties Certificate to the level required by Transport Canada
  • The ability to meet the requirements of the Physical Demands Analysis for this position
  • The ability to work 12-hour shifts, including days, nights, and weekends
Technical Knowledge and Skills

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of seamanship principles and safe practices, as well as experience with routine emergency procedures and lifesaving equipment.

Customer Service and Communication Skills

You will provide quality customer service to the public through courteous communication and exchange information with passengers and crew.

Estimated Salary: $45,000 - $60,000 per year

This salary range is based on the location (Kingston, Ontario) and the typical compensation package for a similar role in the industry.
