Job Description

The Senior Scientist will play a key role in the discovery research, design, development, and support for proteins/antibodies needed for IVD products, with a focus on scale-up and new processes development for various proteins/antibodies transfer to manufacturing with the support of the Scientific Affairs team and Production teams.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and performing exploratory studies into proposed protein engineering projects, designing and evaluating protein (or antibody) production processes from mammalian and bacterial sources, optimizing process conditions, improving product design and related processes and procedures, and troubleshooting technical issues.

In addition, the Senior Scientist will participate in the development of plans, schedules, and costs of assigned projects/programs, collaborate with Scientific Affairs, Quality and Production departments for scaling up and technology transfer of protein/antibody purification/production, liaise with external contract manufacturers on protein production as needed, and progress report to Project Manager and accountability for project completion on time and on budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and perform exploratory studies into proposed protein engineering projects
  • Design and evaluate protein (or antibody) production processes from mammalian and bacterial sources
  • Optimize process conditions, improve product design and related processes and procedures, and troubleshoot technical issues
  • Participate in the development of plans, schedules, and costs of assigned projects/programs
  • Collaborate with Scientific Affairs, Quality and Production departments for scaling up and technology transfer of protein/antibody purification/production
  • Liaise with external contract manufacturers on protein production as needed
  • Progress report to Project Manager and accountability for project completion on time and on budget

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A PhD degree in a life sciences discipline (preferably biochemistry, microbiology, biology or related science) with a minimum of 5 years of industry experience in designing and producing antibodies and antigens for IVD or related field applications
  • Strong technical knowledge on protein/antibody development, expression, and purification
  • Experience with IVD would be an asset, but not a requirement
  • Must have strong analytical and technical writing skills
  • Must be able to work independently following a brief period of specific technical training
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office, Project, Excel)
  • Experience in writing studentship, fellowship and/or research application is preferred
