About the Role

As a Disability Support Worker with WJS Canada, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities to achieve their goals and become more independent in their community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personalized support to individuals with developmental disabilities in a private residential or group home setting, helping them to develop skills and become more involved in their community.
  • Support may be provided one-on-one or with others, and may include activities such as personal care, housekeeping, companionship, and skill development.
  • Promote inclusion in community activities, such as artistic, educational, and recreational programming, and support individuals in participating in the volunteer sector.
  • Link individuals to community support services and employment coaching, such as resume building and job searches.


Requirements

  • Grade 12 diploma or diploma in Disability Studies or related Social Sciences/Human Services or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, with specialized education and training and/or demonstrated success in relevant settings.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license, suitable Driver's Abstract, proof of insurability, and own vehicle.
  • First Aid/CPR, Restrictive Procedures, Abuse Protocols, Non Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention.
  • Commitment to philosophies and principles of community-based living for individuals in service.
