Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transportation Engineering Lead to join our team at the Ministry of Transportation. As a key member of our Operational Traffic Engineering team, you will play a lead role in conducting traffic engineering research and developing traffic engineering policies, procedures, and standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, review, and implement policies, standards, and specifications for traffic operations, traffic control devices and systems, and highway safety initiatives.
  • Provide engineering expertise to regions, consultants, and external partners on traffic control, traffic operations, and traffic control devices and systems.
  • Manage transportation projects and provide engineering, technical, and administrative direction to staff and consultants.
Requirements
  • Extensive knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of civil engineering related to highway safety and traffic engineering.
  • Knowledge of highway safety and traffic operations, control, policies, directives, procedures, and standards, including local, national, and international standards and practices, and related legislative acts.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills to coordinate projects simultaneously.
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills to resolve problems, develop engineering proposals, and assess ministry policy implementation in terms of project delivery and resource utilization.
  • Advanced engineering and mathematical skills and knowledge of capacity calculations, complex intersection, and signalized intersection operations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to provide information, act as an expert on engineering and technical matters, and deliver training.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop new policies, standards, and procedures, and provide guidance to various stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Valid G license or equivalent.
