About the Opportunity

The Douglas College Department of Sociology invites applications for a contract faculty position. This is a teaching-focused role, with opportunities to contribute to curriculum development and student success.

As an Academic Instructor in Sociology, you will be responsible for teaching introductory sociology courses at the post-secondary level. You should have experience in successful post-secondary teaching, and a teaching and research specialization that complements existing departmental strengths. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the sociology of globalization, race and ethnicity, and citizenship and identity.

Key Responsibilities

You will instruct students, facilitate learning, and evaluate student progress in University Transfer courses that are largely at the first and second year level. Key responsibilities include planning, organizing, and managing learning activities and resources, providing academic advice to learners, and maintaining quality learner-centered instruction.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need a Master's or PhD in Sociology, demonstrated experience in successful post-secondary teaching, and ability to work effectively as part of a team. Additionally, you should have excellent communication skills, demonstrated initiative and creativity, evidence of ongoing professional development, and a commitment to teaching excellence.

Compensation

This is a part-time, non-tenure track position. Salary is approximately $75,000 per year, based on qualifications and experience.
