Position Overview

Douglas College is seeking a Contract Instructor to teach ELLA and TESL courses in the Faculty of Language, Literature and Performing Arts.

Salary and Benefits

The successful candidate will be offered an hourly rate of $52.41-$114.65 per hour, with the possibility of earning up to $7,716 per three-credit course. Job Responsibilities

As a Contract Instructor in the ELLA Department, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing course outlines that meet curriculum guidelines;
  • Selecting and creating teaching materials that cater to diverse learner needs;
  • Managing teaching and learning resources through the college's Learning Management System (LMS);
  • Delivering high-quality, learner-centred instruction that fosters academic excellence;
  • Designing assignments and assessment criteria that promote student engagement and motivation;
  • Observing and evaluating practicum students to ensure they meet program requirements;
  • Holding regular office hours to provide support and guidance to students;
  • Maintaining currency in the field through regular professional development activities.
Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must possess:

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in TESL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field;
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience teaching adult English as a Second Language (ESL) programs;
  • Demonstrated experience teaching TESL courses with a focus on language acquisition and cultural awareness;
  • Experience working with a Learning Management System to deliver online and hybrid courses;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team;
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in ESL and TESL methodologies and best practices.
