Job Summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a Part Time Thrift Store Clerk to provide exceptional customer service, sort incoming products, and assist with ongoing retail operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Protect the integrity of all donated items.
  • Process customer transactions accurately and efficiently.
  • Sort, price, and store donations in a timely manner.
  • Interact with customers and donors in a positive and courteous manner.
  • Contribute to meeting store budgets by maintaining customer service standards.
  • Provide excellent customer service and greet customers warmly.
  • Unload donations and place stock in the warehouse.
  • Contribute to inventory control by retrieving, sorting, and pricing items as directed.
  • Remove inventory from the sales floor as directed.
  • Abide by store policies and procedures.
  • Work with volunteers as assigned.
Working Conditions
  • This is a temporary part-time position based on 20 hours per week.
  • The schedule may vary from week to week and include weekdays and Saturdays.
  • The job requires the ability to stand for extended periods and lift/move 20 to 29 pounds.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Completion of Secondary School.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Knowledge
  • Have a minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience.
  • Cash handling experience is required.
  • Knowledge and experience using a cash register, debit machine, and/or credit card processing is a definite asset.

  • Basic math skills required.
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible.
  • Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Exhibit good listening skills and strong oral/written communication skills.
