About the Role

The Associate Director, Total Rewards is a strategic partner working consultatively with management and the People Services team. The role supports the strategic goals of the college and is responsible for services related to compensation and classification, benefits, employment agreements, and services related to these for all employee groups. This position fosters a positive and respectful working relationship with faculty, staff, administrators, and union representatives, as well as internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Planning: Participate in the overall leadership of People Services through planning, development, and implementation of the People Services strategic plan.
  • Operational Projects: Oversee and implement strategic and operational projects related to assigned portfolio across the College. Collaborate with the HRIS team on acquisitions and implementation of existing or new HRIS software or point solutions.
  • Process Innovation: Ensure processes and systems are innovative, efficient, and effective, removing barriers to attract and retain a diverse range of candidates.
  • Leadership: Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to a team of HR professionals including compensation and classification experts.
Benefits and Compensation
  • Compensation Strategy: Develop strategy and direction for VCC benefit offerings, promoting sectoral mandates and integrated plan design changes.
  • Pension Administration: Manage pension plan administration, processing, and systems, ensuring appropriate training for HR Associates.
  • Benefits Communication: Communicate benefit-related information to the college community, evaluating and modifying policies to ensure current, competitive, and compliant programs.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Certifications: Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) is required; Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) or Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation is an asset.
  • Experience: Eight (8) years of recent related experience managing compensation, job evaluation, benefits, and pension programs in a post-secondary, multi-union environment.
  • Skills: Strong leadership, people development, and relationship building orientation; excellent knowledge of benefit, pension, compensation, job evaluation, and recruitment best practices.
