About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician to join our team at BGIS. As a key member of our facilities operations team, you will be responsible for assisting other technicians, performing maintenance and repair, and routine services on non-technical facility components.

Key Responsibilities
  • Troubleshooting
    • Provide observations about facility conditions and deficiencies, and suggest enhancements and repairs.
  • Maintenance
    • Perform work in accordance with established processes and practices.
    • Comply with all internal and external requirements, including environmental, health and safety, and fire protection.
    • Perform regular facility technical and non-technical component monitoring and inspection.
    • Respond to routine service requests and perform preventative and corrective maintenance.
    • Operate facility mechanical, electrical, and other systems.
    • Manage work order life cycle, progressing work from dispatched to completion, and record resolution data within the service maintenance management database.
    • Assist in the implementation of preventative maintenance (PM) programs.
  • Client Relations
    • Assist in enhancing tenant and customer satisfaction and maintaining positive relations through the manner in which work is performed and services delivered.
  • Administration
    • Record resolution data within the service maintenance management database, ensuring work completed meets quality, contract response, and all other requirements.
    • Receive, track, monitor, and report the status of maintenance and repair work within the service maintenance management database.
    • Initiate documents to obtain formal approval of work required.
    • Participate in and assist with facility-related projects.
    • Ensure the manner in which work is performed is in compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices, and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, fire protection, and any other applicable requirements.
    • Maintain all assigned tools and arrange for repair and replacement where required.
    • Submit all expenditures on a timely basis.
    Requirements
    • Education
      • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Experience
      • Minimum 3 years of facility operations and maintenance work experience.
    • Knowledge and Skills
      • Knowledge of processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance.
      • Ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair non-technical facility components.
      • Ability to provide observations about facility conditions and deficiencies and suggest enhancements and repairs.
      • Ability to research, learn, and gain greater proficiency in applying on-the-job fire, life, and building codes and standards.
      • Possesses a strong environment, health, and safety mindset, with the ability to perform work in a safe manner.
      • Strong client-service orientation, along with a high sense of urgency.
      • Effective communication skills for the purpose of data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification.
      • Basic knowledge and understanding of Building Automation Systems (BAS).
      • Ability to read, understand, and interpret technical drawings and information.
      • Self-motivated.
      • Computer literacy.
      • Demonstrated maintenance and repair skills.
      • Must be able and willing to work shifts, be available for on-call/stand-by, and emergency call-outs as they arise.
      • Must be willing to wear personal protective equipment.
      • Must meet enhanced security clearance requirements.
      • Valid driver's license.
      Preferred Qualifications
      • Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
        • Demonstrate an interest in obtaining a diploma or a certificate, or be in the process of obtaining one.
        • Meet the requirements for a higher security clearance.
        • Any one of the following are considered an asset:
          • Building Operator Certification or equivalent through an accredited institution.
          • Building Systems Maintenance Certificate (SMC).
          • Systems Maintenance Administrator (SMA).
          • Systems Maintenance Technician (SMT).
          • Facilities Technician Certification.
          • Working towards a trade license, an asset.
          • Working towards Building Environment Systems (BES) Operation Class 1.
