Position Overview:

The City of Toronto is seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Facility Maintenance Technician. This role is essential for ensuring the upkeep and functionality of various public facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts semi-skilled tasks related to the upkeep and mechanical maintenance of facilities, including public halls and recreational centers.
  • Ensures a high standard of cleanliness and organization throughout the facility, encompassing all public spaces and surrounding grounds.
  • Performs routine maintenance, testing, and repairs on equipment and building infrastructure.
  • May operate heating and air-conditioning systems as needed.
  • Continuously assesses the facility's needs for equipment, furnishings, and supplies.
  • Keeps accurate records, including log books and files, to track maintenance activities.
  • Provides assistance and guidance to tenants and facility users, addressing inquiries and reporting any unusual incidents to appropriate personnel.
  • Collaborates with tenants, facility users, City staff, and support agencies visiting the premises.
  • Engages in various semi-skilled tasks that do not necessitate licensed trades.
  • Identifies and communicates issues that require the attention of skilled tradespeople.
  • May offer direction and training to other staff members and may be required to travel to different work sites.
  • Undertakes additional related duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in the operation and maintenance of building mechanical systems.
  • Significant background in janitorial or caretaking roles.
  • Familiarity with operating various equipment associated with facility maintenance.

Additional Requirements:

  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and relevant regulations.
  • Ability to provide leadership and training to colleagues.
  • Comprehensive understanding of maintenance materials and equipment.
  • Possession of a valid Province of Ontario Class 'G' driver's license and qualification for the City's equipment operating permits may be required.
  • Physical capability to perform the necessary duties of the role.
  • Availability for shift work, weekends, overtime, and on-call duties as needed.
