Job Title: Human Resources Generalist

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Human Resources Generalist to join our team at Telesat in Ottawa, Ontario.

About the Role

This full-time hire will provide human resources services and support to client groups in Canada and other members of the HR team. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and handle sensitive and confidential matters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as first point of contact for client groups, primarily in Canada, and occasionally in the United States, regarding inquiries related to policy interpretation.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and ongoing administration of HR programs and policies, including onboarding, performance management, relocation, attendance management, and more.
  • Maintain a detailed knowledge of relevant federal legislation and regulations and provide guidance to managers and employees on their application.
  • Work closely with other HR team members to coordinate coverage for all aspects of Generalist responsibilities and projects.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to update existing job descriptions and help draft various letters.
  • Provide onboarding and advisory services to employees in their client groups, including payroll, benefits, pension, and retirement options.
  • Assist with cross-border immigration requirements.
  • Manage authorized leave programs, including STD, LTD, and year-end vacation accrual calculations.
  • Prepare ad hoc workforce metrics and analytics as requested.
  • Complete various filings and submissions as needed.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience as a Human Resources Generalist or Advisor in a private sector, fast-paced business setting, preferably federally regulated.
  • CHRP designation is an asset.
  • Solid knowledge of human resources best practices and Canadian federal legislation.
  • Advanced communication skills in English (written and oral). French is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Highly organized, flexible, and able to take initiative.
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently and handle sensitive matters.
Salary Range:

$80,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on experience.
