Commissionaires Nova Scotia is seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to join its Board of Governors as a volunteer member. About Commissionaires Nova Scotia:

  • We are a not-for-profit provider of security, safety, training, and identification services in Atlantic Canada.
  • Our mission is to provide meaningful employment for veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP, their families, and others who want to contribute to the security and well-being of Nova Scotians.

About the Role:

The Board of Governors consists of approximately 16 volunteer members who work with the management team to provide strategic direction and exercise oversight of operations and resource expenditure. The Board meets six times yearly, typically lasting 1-3 hours, either in person at our Head Office in Bedford, NS or virtually via Microsoft Teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with the CEO, the Board assesses strategic risk and mitigation strategies.
  • The Board provides oversight on budgeting and reconciliation processes.
  • Maintaining Division policies and bylaws is a key responsibility.
  • Board Members support business development by leveraging their community contacts.
  • Ceremonial activities, such as presenting long service awards, may be required.

Desired Qualifications and Attributes:

  • 10+ years of experience in leadership roles, preferably in the military, police, or private sector.
  • Relevant university degree or equivalent.
  • Experience in strategic planning, finance, accounting, and/or board governance.
  • Military or policing experience, or understanding of uniform culture through personal experience.
  • Knowledge of English and French is an asset.

Estimated Salary: $85,000 - $115,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications. This estimate is based on industry standards and market rates for similar positions in Atlantic Canada.

Location: Bedford, Nova Scotia, with flexibility to attend virtual meetings.
