Job Summary

The Area Supervisor will oversee maintenance work, interpret contracts, schedule and coordinate in-house or sub-contractor work to ensure timely, efficient, effective, and profitable completion.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Perform condition assessments of pavements, signs, guardrails, tunnels, bridges, vegetation, and other contract infrastructure and assets. Schedule and coordinate work to be performed.

  2. Collaborate with the Operations Manager to determine the best approach for bringing assets into contract compliance, considering cost, timelines, and efficiency. Plan and coordinate all work items.

  3. Inspect ongoing and completed work to ensure compliance with contract requirements.

  4. Supervise maintenance crews, including selecting, developing, and managing their performance. Facilitate new hire training and ongoing safety and work standard training.

  5. Respond to incident emergencies and coordinate the work of on-site responders. Report accidents and injuries.

  6. Coordinate with fleet teams and mechanics for inspection, calibration, and repair of the fleet.

  7. Manage and monitor highway project assets and materials.

  8. Identify opportunities for changes and improvements in work methods, processes, efficiency, and cost reduction.

  9. Create and manage successful completion of all work orders.

  10. Review claims for damages on the highway system for validity and arrange for data collection.

  11. Work with field coordinators to ensure accurate documentation and reporting of work as per contractual requirements and company policies.

  12. Manage inventory for consumables.

  13. Communicate with ministry staff, other contractors, external agencies, and the public to respond to complaints and issues.

  14. Collaborate with the Contract Manager to identify and qualify subcontractors and negotiate contract parameters.

  15. Assist and monitor routine work plan activities such as traffic control and maintenance work.

  16. Be available for emergency response rotations as needed.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma.

  • Minimum five years of work experience in construction and/or road maintenance industry, with previous supervisory experience.

Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.

Work Environment

The incumbent will split working time between office and field work.
