This role reports to the Supervisor, Housekeeping & Laundry, providing laundry services to residents living in the home. Key responsibilities include washing soiled articles, ordering laundry supplies, cleaning laundry equipment, and informing the Supervisor of any issues.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Sort soiled linen and articles.
  • Weigh articles and document results.
  • Wash soiled articles.
  • Dry laundered articles.
  • Hang and fold laundered articles.
  • Press items as required.
  • Perform minor mending.
  • Deliver laundry to resident home areas and distribute articles appropriately.
  • Differentiate between 'dry clean' and water wash articles.
  • Update resident and number lists.
  • Document missing and found actions and returns from linen service.
  • Order laundry chemicals and supplies.
  • Monitor and confirm daily linen quotas.
  • Respond to customer and client enquiries.
  • Label personal effects of residents.
  • Clean laundry equipment and area.
  • Respond to priorities and emergencies.
  • Inform Supervisor of any issues.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • Possess a secondary school diploma and the ability to operate laundry equipment and prioritize tasks.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to work both in a team and independently are required.
  • Must have an understanding of the Residents' Bill of Rights and Compliance Standards as set out by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.
  • A general knowledge and understanding of workplace safety and basic computer skills are also required.

  • The incumbent must be able to perform all necessary physical tasks associated with the position, including lifting approximately 50 lbs., pushing, pulling, and moving heavy materials, equipment, and boxes.

  • Current (obtained within the past six months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening by the first day of employment.
  • Current two-step tuberculosis test (obtained within the past six months) by the first day of employment.
