Job Summary

The British Columbia Institute of Technology is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Facilities Services Manager to join our team. As a key member of our Facilities and Campus Development department, you will be responsible for developing and managing the maintenance, operations, and capital renewal functions of our specialty campuses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintenance and Operations: Ensure that all facilities are functioning safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable laws and codes. Develop and implement sound energy management practices within the maintenance environment.
  • Project Management: Manage maintenance upgrades and renovation projects, directing consultants and contractors in the implementation of minor capital projects. Establish good work control practices, ensuring that maintenance priorities and customer needs are optimized with the available resources.
  • Database Management: Develop a maintenance project planning database and project scope delivery for all specialty campuses. Support the plan towards full implementation of a computerized maintenance management system for all facility assets.
  • Financial Management: Assist in developing and overseeing operational and capital expenses budgets. Engage in continuous process improvement to streamline financial processes, optimizing to monitor, track, and support financial activities.
  • Safety and Compliance: Liaise with the Safety, Security, and Emergency Management department to develop best practices in safety from relevant industry sectors. Develop operational contingency plans for all specialty campuses, ensuring BCIT meets regulatory compliance and follows sound health and safety practices.
  • Team Management: Oversees consultants and contractors, including hiring, training, developing, and managing performance. Participate in professional organizations and keep current on state-of-the-art initiatives in the field of practice.
Qualifications
  • Education: Completion of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience: Three to five years of current managerial experience in a facilities or manufacturing environment, preferably in a unionized setting.
  • Certifications: Field Safety Representative certification is an asset.
  • Skills: Strong background in accounting and finance, proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, and demonstrated ability to lead others with a proven ability to build effective work teams.
