Job Summary

The British Columbia Institute of Technology is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Facilities Services Manager to join our team. As a key member of our Facilities and Campus Development department, you will be responsible for developing and managing the maintenance, operations, and capital renewal functions of our specialty campuses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement sound preventative maintenance programs to ensure all facilities are functioning safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable laws and codes.
  • Manage maintenance upgrades and renovation projects, directing consultants and contractors in the implementation of minor capital projects.
  • Establish good work control practices, ensuring that maintenance priorities and customer needs are optimized with the available resources.
  • Develop maintenance project planning databases and project scope delivery for all specialty campuses, supporting the plan towards full implementation of a computerized maintenance management system for all facility assets.
  • Assist in developing and overseeing operational and capital expenses budgets, engaging in continuous process improvement to streamline financial processes.
  • Liaise with the Safety, Security, and Emergency Management department to develop best practices in safety from relevant industry sectors, developing operational contingency plans for all specialty campuses.
  • Oversee consultants and contractors, including hiring, training, developing, and managing performance.
  • Participate in professional organizations and keep current on state-of-the-art initiatives in the field of practice.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Three to five years of current managerial experience in a facilities or manufacturing environment, preferably in a unionized setting.
  • Field Safety Representative certification is an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Training and experience in facilities management, preventative maintenance, project management, and building trades, including building codes, industry standards, and procedures.
  • Strong background in accounting and finance.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead others with a proven ability to build effective work teams.
  • Proven ability to plan and implement change, especially process improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of customers and create systems and processes that maximize customer service.
