About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Summer Program Leader, Water Safety Expert to join our team at CNIB Lake Joe, our accessible summer camp in Ontario. As a key member of our program team, you will play a critical role in delivering exceptional waterfront programs that promote fun, safety, and inclusivity for our guests with sight loss.

Key Responsibilities

  • Water Safety and Lifeguarding: Safely support the lifeguarding of our waterfront and boating programs, ensuring guest safety by adhering to CNIB Lake Joe waterfront procedures and industry standards.
  • Swim Testing and Assessment: Facilitate swim tests on the first day of each session and assess guests' swimming skills to assign appropriate swim bracelets.
  • Program Facilitation: Energetically and inclusively facilitate and support waterfront and non-waterfront programming, adapting programs to ensure accessibility for all participants.
  • Equipment and Facilities Management: Set up assigned program areas, ensure required equipment and materials are available, and maintain cleanliness and organization.
  • Emergency Response: Participate in the emergency response team, being on call, present on site, and available to respond to emergencies.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain documentation of accidents or incidents and provide reports to leadership as needed.
  • Youth Week Support: During youth weeks, provide overnight care and supervision to campers, ensuring their health and safety while in our care.
  • Spring Season Tasks: Assist with setting up program areas, resource management, and small maintenance tasks during the spring season.

Requirements

  • Education and Certifications: Degree or diploma in a related field or equivalent work experience; current NLS certification required (Waterfront NLS an asset); current Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check; current Standard First Aid and CPR "C"; PCO card or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience and Qualifications: Strong interpersonal skills, including patience, empathy, and communication; experience in camp or recreation programs; ability to work flexible hours in a changing environment; accommodations available on site; personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss considered an asset.
  • Work Environment: Outdoor work required; ability to work in varying weather conditions; moderate physical exertion; ability to maintain confidentiality; occasional overtime/flex time; ability to work flexible hours in a dynamic environment.

Benefits

CNIB Foundation offers a competitive salary range of $17.20 - $18.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
