Job Title: Instructor Guard/Supervising Instructor GuardAbout the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Instructor Guard/Supervising Instructor Guard to join our team at Norfolk County. As an Instructor Guard, you will be responsible for teaching swimming programs, promoting good relations with patrons, and ensuring the safety of swimmers at our facilities.

Responsibilities
  1. Safeguard life and prevent accidents at the County swimming pools.
  2. Teach swimming programs and promote good relations with patrons of the facilities.
  3. Responsible for safety supervision, class management, and risk management at the swimming classes.
  4. Work according to Health and Safety Act, Lifesaving Society Standards, and Norfolk County Policies.
  5. Provide instruction to individuals and groups in organized swimming classes.
  6. Prepare lesson plans, organize equipment, teach and evaluate swim classes in accordance with the standards established by the Lifesaving Society and Norfolk County.
  7. Complete all documentation related to class instruction.
  8. Perform lifeguard duties during recreational swims, rental groups, and other aquatics programs.
  9. Ensure compliance with Regulation 565 and Norfolk County policies and procedures.
Requirements

We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Current Lifesaving Society Instructor status.
  • Current National Lifeguard Award.
  • Current Standard First Aid, C.P.R., A.E.D.
  • Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Certification.
  • Basic aquafit teaching experience of shallow and deep water classes is required.
  • Aquafitness Certification through CALA or Water ART or willing to obtain certification.

Successful candidates will also have:

  • Over one year, up to and including two years' experience, to become familiar with the scope of the position, or equivalent previous experience.
  • The ability to complete and pass Norfolk County's Aquatics Skills Screening Test as part of the hiring process.
  • High 5 – Principles of Healthy Child Development (an asset).
  • Knowledge of Perfect Mind software (an asset).
What We Offer

Norfolk County offers a competitive salary range of $26.95 – $33.65 per hour for Instructor Guard positions and $29.64 – $37.04 per hour for Supervising Instructor Guard positions.

We also offer a permanent part-time schedule of up to 24 hours per week.
