About the Role

Under the direction of Management, the Medical Laboratory Assistant in Training supports the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine team by performing pre-analytical testing functions, including specimen procurement, data entry, media preparation, and customer service activities.

This role requires strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to work independently. The Medical Laboratory Assistant in Training may be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, and/or holidays.

About You
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or completed the program and waiting to achieve certification with CSMLS
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology
  • Ability to accurately number/specimens and file slides/requisitions
  • Ability to adapt to updates/changes in operating procedures
  • Previous experience using pipettes and in a laboratory setting is an asset
  • Access to reliable transportation as travel may be required
Terms of Employment

This is a Casual Relief Healthcare bargaining unit position. Preference is given to bargaining unit employees for unionized positions.
