Director, Radioactive Waste Operations

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization is seeking a highly experienced professional to lead our Intermediate and High-Level Waste Management team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans to manage and dispose of radioactive waste in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and Implement Strategic Plans
Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement strategic planning initiatives that drive the ILW and HLW technical roadmap.
Lead Technical GroupLead a technical group to develop a technical program for long-term management of ILW, HLW from future reactors in a DGR for all project phases including pre-siting, site selection and characterization, regulatory licensing, design, construction, operations, and decommissioning.
Manage External Studies and ContractsManage external studies and contracts (contract management) from initiation to closeout to support the development of a technical program for long-term management of existing ILW & HLW from future reactors in a DGR.
Collaborate with Cross-Functional TeamsCollaborate with (APM) DGR project team in Engineering, Geoscience, Safety Assessment, Communication, Engagement, Regulatory and/or Environment groups where appropriate.
Develop and Manage RelationshipsManage relationships with Canadian universities, international waste management agencies, and other industry experts to ensure adoption of best practices for the ILW, NFHLW & HLW from future reactors such SMRs for long-term management of such waste in a DGR.
Develop and Manage BudgetEstablish short- and long-term business plans and strategies to meet organizational and departmental objectives. Develop and manage budget to execute this business plan.
Supervise StaffSupervise staff and be responsible for their assigned work. Act as a coach to create and sustain a cooperative and supportive team environment, actively working with staff to provide training and empower them to attain optimal work performance with a high level of personal responsibility and self-management.
Support DirectorSupport the Director with business planning, life-cycle cost estimates for the ILW, HLW program and facility, and associated funding approach.
Qualifications and Experience- Education
4-year university engineering or science degree or an equivalent level of experience. (MSc or MEng preferred).
ExperienceMore than 12 years of relevant leadership or subject matter experience.
Technical KnowledgeDemonstrated project experience in nuclear field with preference for radiological waste management.
Leadership SkillsDemonstrated experience in managing, motivating and leading staff.
Communication SkillsAbility to communicate effectively with all levels of internal contacts within the organization.
