Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Support Services Worker to join our team in Thunder Bay. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with elderly tenants living in a community apartment complex.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assessing and Providing Support Services: Conduct thorough assessments of tenant needs, plan and implement necessary support services, and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Facilitating Independence and Self-Determination: Promote and support tenants' independence and self-determination through various programs and activities.
  • Meal Provision and Household Management: Provide or coordinate three meals per day, seven days a week, tailored to tenants' preferences and dietary needs, as well as manage household services essential for their health and comfort.
  • Transportation and Medical Care: Arrange medical and social transportation for tenants and provide routine health care, including medication management, nail and skin care, and other agreed-upon tasks.
  • Behavioral Support and Ancillary Services: Offer ongoing staff support, intervention, and supervision for tenants with behavioral issues, as well as arrange ancillary services related to medical care, social opportunities, and hospice care.
Requirements:
  • Education and Experience: Successful completion of a recognized personal support worker or developmental services worker program, or successful completion of the first year of an RPN or RN program.
  • Skills and Abilities: A genuine interest and understanding of the needs of the elderly; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; self-directed and sensitive to the needs of the elderly; competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be willing to work shifts, including holidays and weekends.
  • Must have successfully undergone a 'two-step' tuberculosis skin test within the 12 months prior to employment.
  • Must have and maintain current First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Must undergo a successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC).
Estimated Salary:

$45,000 - $55,000 per annum, based on location and experience.
