About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Indigenous Health Advocate to join our team at PHSA. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in supporting the integration of Indigenous peoples into our services and promoting culturally safe care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consultative and navigational services to patients referred to PHSA programs and services, including cultural interpretation and health literacy translation services.
  • Support access and coordination of services for patients within the designated region, including referrals to interagency, Indigenous communities, and other health programs and services.
  • Advocate for the needs of patients within the healthcare system and liaise with other community and regional health organizations.
  • Provide support and act as a resource for healthcare providers regarding the provision of culturally safe care.
  • Maintain and update documentation and records related to the needs of Indigenous patients in the healthcare system.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a diploma or degree in a related health discipline, health or social sciences, or a patient care/clinical related discipline.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, and Inuit) communities and organizations.
  • Experience or knowledge of the healthcare system and community-based resources within the region.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and application of cultural safety and competency within healthcare.
