Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned educator with expertise in Indigenous culture, history, language, and contemporary issues to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading Indigenous education initiatives and fostering Indigenous student success across the district.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading various teams within the Indigenous Education Department
  • Liaising with community partners and school teams to meet the needs of Indigenous learners
  • Providing supervision and support for Indigenous Education Department staff
  • Engaging with and advocating for Indigenous learners (K-12)
  • Planning, guiding, and monitoring implementation measures to improve Indigenous student academic performance and success

We are seeking a candidate with a strong commitment to continuous growth and learning, as described by the British Columbia Principals and Vice-Principals Leadership Standards. Experience in school and/or district-level administration, as well as successful teaching experience, are essential requirements for this role.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must possess:

  • A Master's degree or be eligible for membership in the Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation Branch
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, history, language, and contemporary issues
  • A strong commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, providing equitable and inclusive educational opportunities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with local Indigenous communities, school communities, and the District's Indigenous Education Council
