About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Recreation Therapy Associate to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing support to clients and families through the application of recreation intervention to promote holistic functioning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide interventions to groups or individuals in inpatient, outpatient, or community settings, related to the client's leisure needs and overall plan of care.
  • Practice in adherence to practice standards and scope of employment.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and implement recreation programs that meet the unique needs of our clients.
  • Conduct assessments and evaluations to identify client needs and develop individualized recreation plans.
  • Provide education and support to clients and families on recreation-based interventions and strategies.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary diploma with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited educational institution.
  • BLS - C certification.
  • Experience working with individuals with physical/cognitive disabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team or other healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to assist in the plan, develop, implement, and evaluation of Recreation programs.
  • Effective listening and communication skills; ability to motivate patients/veterans.
  • Adaptability/Flexibility: changing and adapting skills to changing patient populations and/or worksites.
  • Ability to work independently, without direct supervision.
  • Ability to understand medical terminology used in a clinical area, and use within the documentation.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.
