Recreation Therapy Associate

We are seeking a highly skilled Recreation Therapy Associate to join our team at the Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a member of our healthcare team, you will provide support to clients and families through the application of recreation intervention to support holistic functioning of clients.
About YouWe are looking for a candidate with a post-secondary diploma in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited educational institution, as well as experience working with individuals with physical/cognitive disabilities. You will be able to work effectively within a team or other healthcare professionals, and have the ability to assist in the plan, develop, implement and evaluation of Recreation programs.
Key Responsibilities- Provide recreation interventions to groups or individuals in inpatient, outpatient or community settings, related to the client's leisure needs and overall plan of care.
- Practice in adherence to practice standards and scope of employment.
- Work effectively within a team or other healthcare professionals.
- Assist in the plan, develop, implement and evaluation of Recreation programs.
- Post-secondary diploma with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited educational institution.
- BLS - C certification.
- Experience working with individuals with physical/cognitive disabilities.
- Ability to work effectively within a team or other healthcare professionals.
- Ability to assist in the plan, develop, implement and evaluation of Recreation programs.
- Effective listening and communication skills; ability to motivate patients/veterans.
- Adaptability/Flexibility: changing and adapting skills to changing patient populations and/or worksites.
- Ability to work independently, without direct supervision.
- Ability to understand medical terminology used in a clinical area, and use within the documentation.
This is a permanent full-time position, with 75 hours biweekly. Shifts include weekdays, occasional weekends and Holidays. Travel may be required.
Compensation and IncentivesThe successful candidate will receive a competitive hourly rate of $25.95. They may also be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
