About the Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Recreation Therapy Associate to join our team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a member of our healthcare team, you will provide support to clients and families through the application of recreation intervention to support holistic functioning.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a therapist and provide interventions to groups or individuals in inpatient, outpatient or community settings, related to the client's leisure needs and overall plan of care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide recreation therapy interventions to clients and families
  • Develop and implement recreation programs to meet client needs
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care
  • Conduct assessments and evaluations to identify client needs
  • Document client progress and outcomes

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary diploma with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited educational institution or a diploma
  • BLS - C certification
  • Experience working with individuals with physical/cognitive disabilities
  • Ability to work effectively within a team or other healthcare professionals
  • Ability to assist in the plan, develop, implement and evaluation of Recreation programs
  • Effective listening and communication skills; ability to motivate patients/veterans
  • Adaptability/Flexibility: changing and adapting skills to changing patient populations and/or worksites
  • Ability to work independently, without direct supervision
  • Ability to understand medical terminology used in a clinical area, and use within the documentation
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
About You

We are looking for a motivated and compassionate individual who is passionate about providing high-quality care to clients and families. If you have a strong background in Therapeutic Recreation and a commitment to excellence, we encourage you to apply.

Hours

This is a permanent full-time position, 100% FTE, with 75 hours biweekly. Shifts include weekdays, occasional weekends and holidays. Travel may be required.

Compensation and Incentives

The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary of $25.95 hourly. In addition, they may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
