Position Overview

The City of Mississauga is seeking dedicated individuals to assist in the facilitation of our Recreation Division Sports Programs. The role involves delivering engaging and energetic sports instruction that aligns with established program guidelines and the HIGH FIVE principles. Instructors will be tasked with teaching various sports, adapting their approach to cater to different age groups, from preschoolers to adults, while collaborating with volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Program Supervisor in implementing and managing a comprehensive recreation program tailored to meet the diverse needs of participants while ensuring a safe environment for leisure activities.
  • Promote the goals and values of the specific sports program through high-quality instruction and effective communication with the public and staff.
  • Plan, execute, and assess the sports programs to ensure they meet participant needs.
  • Complete necessary administrative tasks, including daily attendance tracking, facility inspections, and equipment inventory management.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to participants, ensuring their safety at all times.
  • Conduct regular safety assessments of program equipment and facilities.
  • Comply with all program policies and standards regarding content delivery.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and serve as a knowledgeable resource for participants, parents, volunteers, and colleagues.
  • Communicate any issues or relevant information promptly to the manager on duty or direct supervisor.
  • Implement emergency procedures as necessary.
  • Incorporate and exemplify the HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development in program delivery when applicable.
  • Complete all required online training modules.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 15 years old by the start date.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in coaching or instructing the relevant sport is required.
  • Coaching certification is advantageous.
  • Emergency or Standard First Aid & CPR B or C certification (or higher) from a WSIB approved provider is necessary.
  • Certification in HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development is required.
  • Ability to teach and engage participants at various skill levels, demonstrating strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Employment is contingent upon obtaining a Level III - Vulnerable Sector Check from an acceptable Police unit.

Compensation and Work Details

Hourly Rate: $21.08
Hours: Up to 24 hours per week
Work Location: Various locations
Department: Community Services Department, Recreation & Culture Division, Program Delivery
Employment Type: Non-Union
