The role involves overseeing and managing a drop-in program designed for youth. The instructor will be tasked with addressing the needs of participants while ensuring adherence to the program's framework and expectations.
Key Responsibilities- Under the guidance of the Supervisor, Community Programs, the selected individual will facilitate the operation of drop-in sports initiatives, ensuring the safety and engagement of all participants.
- Monitor participants and scheduled activities within designated areas, manage behavior, and communicate any pertinent issues regarding participants or staffing to the supervisor.
- Assist with the setup and dismantling of program equipment. Conduct inspections of program tools and facilities to mitigate risks to participants. Maintain cleanliness and safety of the program area at all times.
- Execute all necessary administrative and operational tasks related to each drop-in program, ensuring compliance with relevant policies.
- Maintain current qualifications and renew certifications as needed.
- Deliver exceptional customer service and serve as a knowledgeable resource for participants, volunteers, and patrons.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
- Ensure constant supervision of participants, providing a safe and enjoyable environment by adhering to departmental safety protocols and assisting with emergency procedures as necessary.
- Complete all mandatory online training modules.
- Incorporate and exemplify the HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development in program execution where applicable.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
- Minimum age of 16 years by the start date.
- Certification in Emergency or Standard First Aid with CPR B of C from a WSIB approved provider.
- Certification in HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development or HIGH FIVE Sport.
- Experience working with youth and adults.
- Strong communication abilities.
- Effective organizational skills.
- Recreational and sports skills.
- Employment is contingent upon obtaining a Level III - Vulnerable Sector Check from an acceptable Police unit.
Compensation: $18.92 per hour
Work Hours: Up to 24 hours per week
Department: Community Services Department, Recreation & Culture Division, Program Delivery
Union Status: Non-Union
