Salary Range: $31.99
Position Overview:
The Recreation Therapist plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents in long-term care settings. This position involves the development and implementation of tailored programs aimed at promoting self-esteem and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and execute specialized activities that foster self-worth and confidence among residents.
- Evaluate the recreational and leisure requirements of residents through comprehensive assessments.
- Facilitate and coordinate outreach services that align with residents' needs.
- Support the Rehabilitation Assistant in delivering restorative care programs and activities.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
- Participate in ongoing education sessions, team meetings, and professional development workshops.
- Ensure accurate record-keeping in compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Fulfill all responsibilities as outlined in the job description for Recreation Therapists.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, Gerontology, or a related discipline.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification is mandatory.
- Proficient computer skills are essential.
- Ability to effectively teach and guide residents and their families.
- Must demonstrate independence, creativity, and organizational skills.
- Physical capability to perform all assigned duties is required.
- Willingness to work various shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends.
- Food Handler Certification is necessary.
- Smart Serve Certificate is also required.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong organizational skills to manage priorities and scheduling effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Capability to interact appropriately with residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
- Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace.
