Position Overview

The role involves aiding in the delivery of the Recreation Division's Sports Programs while leading an engaging and dynamic program that aligns with established guidelines and HIGH FIVE principles. Instructors will be tasked with teaching various sports, demonstrating an understanding of the diverse methodologies required for different age demographics (e.g., preschool versus adult participants), and collaborating with volunteers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Program Supervisor in implementing and managing a comprehensive recreation initiative designed to cater to the needs of all participants while ensuring safety during leisure activities.
  • Promote the goals and philosophies of the specific sports program through high-quality instruction and excellent relations with the public and staff.
  • Plan, execute, and assess the program's effectiveness.
  • Complete necessary administrative tasks accurately (e.g., daily attendance, facility inspections, equipment inventory).
  • Provide guidance and supervision to participants while ensuring their safety at all times.
  • Conduct safety evaluations of program equipment and facility areas.
  • Comply with all program policies and standards related to content and delivery.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and serve as a knowledgeable resource for participants, parents, volunteers, and colleagues.
  • Communicate any issues or information that may affect the quality and safety of the program promptly to the manager on duty or direct supervisor.
  • Execute emergency procedures as necessary.
  • Incorporate and exemplify the HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development in program delivery when applicable.
  • Complete all required online training modules.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Must be at least 15 years old by the start date.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in coaching or instructing the relevant sport.
  • Coaching certification is advantageous.
  • Emergency or Standard First Aid & CPR B or C certification (or higher) from a WSIB approved provider.
  • Certification in HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development.
  • Ability to instruct and adapt to various participant skill levels while demonstrating strong leadership and organizational abilities.
  • Employment is contingent upon obtaining a Level III - Vulnerable Sector Check from an acceptable Police unit.

Compensation: $21.08 per hour
Work Hours: Up to 24 hours
